Card Service Center

Buy a library copy card for $1 at any self-serve card service center in the libraries. (The card itself costs 50 cents, and the remaining 50 cents will be preloaded onto the card to apply to your first 5 copies.)
  • Add value to the card by inserting cash into the self-serve machines.
  • Locations of self-serve machines:
    • Geisel Library:
      • Imprints Copy Center, main floor, east of circulation desk
      • Reference section, main floor, Information Desk
      • Periodicals section, first floor
      • Science & Engineering Library: main floor, lobby (first floor, east wing of Geisel Library)
      • Social Sciences & Humanities: main floor, reference section (main floor, west wing of Geisel Library)
      • Biomedical Library: main floor, second floor copy room
    • International Relations & Pacific Studies Library: main floor
    • Scripps Institution of Oceanography Library: main floor and second floor copy rooms
    • CLICS Library: Galbraith Hall, main floor
    • Medical Center Library in Hillcrest: main floor and second floor copy rooms
  • See maps to UCSD libraries.
Pay by index number. Submit a UCSD Library Copy Card Request Form.

Financial managers can call the Imprints Center in Geisel Library, (858) 534-2534, to request these forms.

Beginning Aug. 31, 2009, campus ID cards will transition to library copy cards.

Index numbers already associated with campus ID cards and department copy cards will be recognized immediately on the new library system, with no action required.

Existing library copy cards will continue to work until the card readers have been changed.

See this list of frequently asked questions (PDF) for more information.

To allow a campus affiliate access to your department index number, submit this authorization form (PDF). You can opt to add a dollar limit or expiration date.

Guest cards will be available for non-affiliates without campus ID cards.

Beginning Sept. 1, 2009, transfer your library copy card balances in either of the following ways:

  • Value remaining on department-purchased library copy cards can be transferred to a UCSD index number with a refund request form (PDF) and return of the card.
  • Balances on personal library copy cards can be transferred to a new personal account. Each library will provide card transfer workstations though February 2010, after which staff at the Imprints Center in Geisel Library can transfer value to campus IDs.
