Types of insurance
UCSD offers more than 30 kinds of insurance coverage to protect its teaching, research, and public service activities from liability and financial loss due to:
|
- Accidents
- Legal liability
- Other unexpected events
|
Certain kinds of coverage are automatic, and departments can request additional (by-request) coverage if necessary.
- Automatic programs are already in place for all departments. These programs don't require enrollment forms or premiums. Basic property insurance and some transit programs are examples of the automatic programs.
- By-request programs require an application, payment of premium, and approval before coverage can begin. Insurance for university-owned automobiles, foreign transit, and fine arts are among the by-request programs.
Responsibilities
Departments are responsible for uninsured losses and deductibles, so review the automatic programs' limitations and exclusions and decide if they fully meet your needs. Risk Management maintains several specialized risk programs and can assist you in negotiating coverage for a particular need.
