Hazardous Waste Training  
 
Summary: Learn how to access required and recommended hazardous waste training at UCSD.

Responsibilities

Strict regulations govern storage and disposal of hazardous waste generated in laboratories, clinics, shops, studios, and other areas.

Principal investigators and supervisors whose facilities contain hazardous materials must make sure their employees attend appropriate hazardous waste management training.

Hazardous Materials Refresher Training

Requirement:

Required for employees who work with hazardous materials. How you get the training depends on whether you are a laboratory or a trades (shop or studio) employee.

Laboratory Safety Principles/ Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)

Requirement:

Required for anyone working in a laboratory or other high-hazard environment. This course covers general safety and laboratory hazardous waste issues.

Bloodborne Pathogens

Requirement:

Required for anyone working with human blood or body fluids, or animal blood known to contain human pathogens.

Radiation: Basic Safety Seminar

Requirement:

Required for anyone using radioactive materials; this course covers general radiation safety and radioactive waste management.

Hazardous Waste Training

Recommendation:

Recommended for anyone generating chemical waste from a research, shop, studio, or clinical setting.

Biosafety: Principles

Recommendation:

Recommended for lab workers using infectious agents or recombinant DNA at Biosafety Level 2 or above. This course covers general biosafety and biohazardous waste management.
