Message From the Chancellor

Please join me in supporting the 2008 UCSD United Way/ CHAD Campaign. This year our theme is "U Can Spark Dreams: Imagine the Impact of Your Support." This is an appropriate theme because over the years, many UCSD employees have chosen to care for the needs of the San Diego community with a contribution to United Way/ CHAD. We are grateful that we are able to continue our participation in this worthy cause.

The 2008 UCSD United Way/ CHAD Campaign will commence on Wednesday, February 20, and will continue through Tuesday, April 15, 2008. You may contribute beyond this date, also.

As you are aware, United Way/ CHAD of San Diego helps locally based agencies distribute funds and other resources to the people of San Diego County. I am a strong supporter of this cause, and I urge you to help us collectively respond to the needs of the many individuals and families within our community. Our Campaign provides the opportunity for us to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.

Your gift this year will support community programs, including those that promote financial stability and independence, homeless outreach and prevention, and stopping child abuse and neglect.

In addition, United Way of San Diego County will be administering two funds (local and regional) to assist with the long-term recovery efforts for those affected by the San Diego Wildfires in October 2007. One-hundred percent of the donations to the two funds will assist people with critical needs including counseling, medical services, and vouchers for rent and utility assistance in San Diego County and throughout Southern California. The designation codes for both funds can be found on the UCSD Web-based pledge application at the link provided below.

I am proud of our campus community and I applaud those of you who volunteer time, energy and financial resources to this cause. Each of us is critical to the success of UC San Diego's efforts to be an active member of the San Diego community. For this year's Campaign to succeed, all of us must become involved and act with our hearts' compassion.

You can use an electronic process to make your pledge by following instructions at UCSD Web-based pledge application. A list of UCSD recipient agencies can also be found on this Web site. If you prefer to receive a paper pledge form, please contact your Department Coordinator.
