Laboratory workers can handle small, incidental spills on their own. In the event of a large or dangerous spill, however, call the UCSD Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team.

Laboratory workers should never clean up:

• Spills that present an immediate hazard (fire, explosion, chemical exposure, etc.)
• Any spill of highly dangerous chemicals
• A moderate or large-scale chemical spill

For unusually large or dangerous spills, UCSD's Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team may call in the San Diego Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team.
