Note: Zipcar replaces the old Flexcar program. If you were a Flexcar member, access the new service by becoming a Zipcar member.
Students, faculty, and staff: If you bike, hike, rideshare, or take public transportation to UCSD but sometimes need access to a car, use a Zipcar to get around. The average $9 hourly rate includes gas and insurance.
Setting up and using Zipcar
- Sign up for a Zipcar membership to set up your account.
- Reserve a Zipcar online or by phone. You'll drive one of more than 10 fuel-efficient cars conveniently parked on campus and the Hillcrest Medical Center.
- Drive. Use your Zipcard to unlock your Zipcar. Drive to your destination, then return the Zipcar to its original location.
Zipcar costs
- Use your personal credit card to pay the $35 annual membership fee. You'll get $35 credited to your new Zipcar account.
- Registered UCSD Commute Solutions members pay no annual fee and get $122 in special rate credits.
- Rates start at $9 per hour and go up to $66 per day, depending on rate plan and vehicle selected. Rates include:
- Gas
- Insurance
- Maintenance
- Reserved parking space
- 180 free miles per trip
- Roadside assistance
- 24-hour customer service
