Campus Card Safeguards for Faculty and Staff

Summary: Faculty and staff, find out about your Campus Card's security features and how to protect it.

If you need a Campus Card, see How to Get or Replace a Faculty/ Staff Campus Card.

Cardholder responsibilities:

  • You are responsible for the use of your Campus Card. It is not transferable. Don't lend the card to others. Unauthorized use or use by a party other than yourself, as well as tampering or alteration, will warrant confiscation and possible disciplinary action by the university.
  • The card is the property of UCSD and must be surrendered upon request. You must carry your Campus Card at all times for proper identification.
  • Report a lost or stolen card to Campus Cards.

Campus Card security features:

  • The small photo on the back of the card does not photocopy and blurs when scanned, making duplication more difficult.
  • UCSD's light blue banner on the back of the card will not reproduce well on copiers or scanners.
  • The magnetic stripe has an issue number that can be deactivated when reported lost or stolen.
  • Only university equipment can update, deactivate, or change the cards.
  • Your photo is stored in the ID card database. The university protects personal identification information as private data. This data will not be released outside the university, except in response to a subpoena or other legal processes, of which you will be informed (in advance, if possible).

Caring for your card:

  • Avoid exposing it to damage, such as washing it, chewing on it, or using it as a tool.
  • Protect the magnetic stripe by keeping it away from coins, keys, cell phones, pagers, stereo equipment, computers, or magnetic fields.
