About Gift Processing
As part of External and Business Affairs-Advancement Services Unit, Gift Processing serves campus departments, the development community, and the University of California Office of the President (UCOP) as the delegated authority to accept, record, and receipt all charitable contributions to UC San Diego and the UC San Diego Foundation.
UC-delegated authority
UCOP and the UCSD Chancellor delegate authority to Gift Processing to serve as the official office of gift acceptance and administration for the UCSD campus as well as for the UC San Diego Foundation. No other campus department may officially accept private gifts.
Responsibilities
Gift Processing also ensures the integrity of gift data recorded and stored in its donor database for donor, departmental, and institutional reporting.
Gift Processing:
- Receives, formally accepts, and deposits gifts in accordance with IRS regulations and UC policy
- Analyzes, codes, and enters gifts into the donor database
- Adds new donor profiles and updates existing profiles with new or updated gift and biological data based on gift documentation
- Records pledges and pledge payments
- Reviews and processes corporate matching gifts
- Processes credit card gifts and telemarketing-generated pledges
- Issues donor receipts and pledge reminders
- Sets up new gift funds
- Allocates gift monies to the university's IFIS fund accounting system
- Provides gift data to the UC San Diego Foundation for its Blackbaud fund accounting system
- Processes gift corrections and adjustments
- Reports all private support given to the campus annually or for specific campaigns
