Career Connection

Summary: Career Connection helps UCSD employees who are interested in assistance with career planning, goal setting, job enhancement, and lateral or upward mobility.

All UCSD staff employees are eligible to join Career Connection. E-mail Career Connection, or call (858) 822-2633 to request a registration form.

Career Connection is sponsored by the Human Resources divisions of Equal Opportunity/ Staff Affirmative Action and Employment & Community Outreach Services.

UCSD employees who are part of the Career Connection program may use the following free services:

  • Career planning workshops provide the knowledge and tools required for successful career planning. To enroll in:
    • Campus, SIO, School of Medicine, Auxiliary & Plant Services, and Hillcrest:
  • The mentorship program matches employees with mentors who can provide career assistance. To be a mentor or request a mentor, visit UCSD's Career Connection Mentorship Program web page.

  • Internship opportunities allow UCSD career employees to work part-time in other UCSD departments to obtain skills and knowledge needed for career enhancement.
  • Promotion Project provides training funds to encourage UCSD departments to hire and train UCSD career employees for openings in selected job classifications. Advancement opportunities are created for UCSD employees while offering monetary support for training within the first six months of the appointment.

  • Informational interviews can be arranged to allow research and information gathering about UCSD jobs and departments. To sign up as an information provider or to ask for a referral, contact Employment & Community Outreach Services.

  • Individual career consultations may be requested by contacting Career Connection, (858) 822-2633.

Watch a Career Connection Program video, available via UCSD Webcast. You'll need to have the current version of RealPlayer installed on your computer to watch the videos. If you are unfamiliar with downloading software, you may want to ask for help.

If the video quality is not good, your RealPlayer may be configured incorrectly. To verify correct setting:
    • Select the video program that you would like to see. This will launch the RealPlayer program.
    • Within RealPlayer (in Normal view), click on Options and select Preferences.
    • Select the Connection tab.
    • Set Normal bandwidth to 256Kbps DSL/Cable (or to 56K modem if you are connected via a modem).
    • Set Maximum bandwidth to T1/LAN (or to 56K modem if you are connected via a modem).
    • Click OK.
    • If you have RealPlayer Plus, turn off the PerfectPlay option.
    • Start the video again by pressing the Play button.
