Ergonomic Awareness: Risk Factors

Summary: Many work tasks can cause strain and injury. Learn about the ergonomic risk factors associated with the kind of job you do, and find out how to prevent work-related injuries.

Activities involving one or more of the following ergonomic risk factors, either singly or in combination, may contribute to or result in an increased risk of discomfort or injury.

  • Forceful exertions
  • Repetitive motions
  • Awkward postures
  • Static postures
  • Compression or contact stress
  • Lighting
  • Vibration
  • Noise
  • Cold temperatures

Good news: injuries from these risk factors can be prevented. Understanding risk factors and practicing basic ergonomic principles is the first defense against possible injury and lost productivity.

Learn about the risk factors associated with your job and what you can do about them:

If you are a UCSD employee and have questions, contact an ergonomics specialist.
