The Data Communications team designs, maintains, and monitors UCSD's campus-wide local and wide-area networks. We assist customers by providing consultation, evaluation, testing, troubleshooting, installation, and configuration of network devices, and use a variety of management systems for network monitoring.
We support the campus routers and switches manufactured by a variety of vendors, primarily Cisco. These devices operate on Ethernet, Gigabit, 10 Gigabit, and other technologies in a heterogeneous multi-protocol environment.
We provide consultation, installation, and testing to ensure use of proper materials within the UCSD fiber optic backbone network. In addition, we install and maintain devices on fiber optic, twisted pair, and broadband networks.
