Get a Bus Sticker and Ride for Free

Summary: Find out how you can ride some San Diego transit buses for free, where to get your bus sticker, and which buses accept it.

Public transportation is a popular alternative to parking at UCSD. The university subsidizes free, unlimited San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) bus rides near campus.

To receive a free UCSD/ MTS bus sticker, bring your valid campus ID to one of these offices:

  • Campus parking office: Rideshare desk, Gilman Parking Structure (map), 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. weekdays
  • Hillcrest Medical Center: Bachman Parking Structure (map), 6:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekdays

Affix the sticker to the front of your ID. When you board the bus, show it to the driver.

Note: UCSD/ MTS stickers expire at the end of June every year. Be sure to renew your sticker by July 1.

Need to extend your ride beyond the free bus zone? Plan your trip with OTIS Online Transit Information System.

Monthly transit passes for routes outside the free bus zone are available from the 27th of the previous month through the 10th of each month at the campus parking office and Medical Center Hillcrest parking office in the Bachman Parking Structure (map). Student quarterly passes are only available at the main campus parking office.

Tell us how we're doing. If you have ideas for improving Transportation & Parking Services, please e-mail them to TellTPS@ucsd.edu.

If you have questions, see Transportation and Parking Contacts or Rideshare Operations.
