E-mail: Keeping a UCSD Account After You Leave

Summary: Find out how to keep your UCSD e-mail account after you leave the University.

If you leave UCSD, you can continue receiving e-mail sent to your UCSD address. Choose one of these options:
  • Forward your messages
You can arrange to have your UCSD e-mail messages forwarded to an off-campus e-mail account for one year. To forward your messages:
    • Complete an online form
      or
    • E-mail a request from your UCSD e-mail account

  • Become a "sponsored guest"
Your former department can sponsor you. Current UCSD employees can also sponsor a spouse or a domestic partner. To become a sponsored guest:
    • Contact your department head, MSO, or the department person who is willing to sponsor you.
    • Ask the sponsor to send a letter, on department letterhead, to the UCSD Postmistress, Mail Code 0110. The letter must state your department affiliation and request that your e-mail alias and the forwarding service continue until a specific date.
Note: If your e-mail account is on your department mail server, you may not be able to retain that account after you leave the department. However, a UCSD account can be created for you at your department's request. Please ask your desktop support person about your options.

As a student leaving UCSD, you can arrange to have your UCSD messages forwarded to an off-campus account for one year. To forward your messages:

  • Complete an online form
    or
  • E-mail a request from your UCSD e-mail account

Read more about closing a student account.

If you join the UCSD Alumni Association, you can register for a lifetime e-mail forwarding option. Register for the free service with the Alumni Association.

If you have questions, e-mail the UCSD Postmistress or call the ACT Help Desk, (858) 534-1853.
