E-mail: How to Set Up Out-of-Office Messages in Popmail  
 
Summary: Learn how to set up your e-mail to respond to incoming mail with an out-of-office message.

Note: You must have an official UCSD e-mail account hosted on the popmail server to use the instructions on this page.

Checklist How to do it
Set up your vacation message. Open UCSD Popmail Vacation Message control.
  • Enter your UCSD network username and password. If you need help, see Obtaining a network username and password.
  • Click Submit. The new screen will show your vacation message status as OFF.

  • Enter your vacation Start Date and Stop Date. Your message will automatically turn on and off when the dates are reached.
  • Enter the reply that will go out to your incoming mail senders under Message Text.
  • Click Update. The new screen will show the updated status as ON. If you get an error message, use your browser's back button to return to the form and check that you entered the information correctly. Click Update again.
  • Your e-mail will respond to senders once a week, and only if your e-mail address is in the To: or Cc: lines. Out-of-Office responses do not go to e-mail lists or senders who have blind-copied you.
Modify your existing vacation message. Open UCSD Popmail Vacation Message control.
  • Follow the same procedure as above to log in.
  • Change your message or dates.
  • Click Update.
Turn off your out-of-office message early. Open UCSD Popmail Vacation Message control.
  • Follow the same procedure as above to log in.
  • Select the radio button next to Click button to turn message off.
  • Click Update.
  • The new screen will show your vacation message status as OFF.
