What to do
How to do it
1. Determine your eligibility.
To be eligible, UCSD faculty, staff, and students must:
Be 18 or older
Have a valid driver's license from any country and have been licensed for at least 1 year (driver’s licenses from some jurisdictions may have conditions)
Have a good driving record:
Fewer than 3 accidents and moving violations in the past 3 years and fewer than 2 incidents in the past 18 months
No reckless or negligent driving violations in the past 3 years
No alcohol violations in the past 7 years
2. Apply for membership.
You can join Zipcar at the $35 membership rate, and you'll get a $35 credit to your new Zipcar account.
If you are a Rideshare member, you're eligible to transition from Flexcar to Zipcar membership — or to join as a new Zipcar member — without paying an annual membership fee. You'll also get a $122 one-time credit for up to 12 months (may be prorated based on your membership activation date).
Note: To be eligible for Rideshare membership, you must be registered UCSD Rideshare program participant. (Sorry, UCSD's Free Bus Zone riders do not qualify.)
3. Receive your membership confirmation.
Note: You can't reserve Zipcars until you receive your membership packet.
Within 14 days of your application's approval, you'll receive your membership packet, including your:
Zipcar member number
Personal identification number (PIN)
Zipcard, which serves as your electronic key to access Zipcars
