FitWell

Summary: Find out about UC's FitWell program for faculty and staff.

Fitwell logo

The University of California sponsors the FitWell program as part of its commitment to creating a positive, healthy work environment.

FitWell is a free program designed to help faculty and staff work more effectively, reduce injuries, illness and stress, increase stamina, and create a healthy and fit lifestyle on and off the job.

Attention Walkers: Throw on your sneakers!
FitWell presents: "Walk & Stretch" beginning June 17, 2008, outside Geisel Library (directly above library entrance; in front of the snake’s head); Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-10:50 a.m. Everyone is welcome!

Walking and stretching are powerful tools in health management. Briskly walk from your work site to Geisel Library. You will be met by a qualified instructor who will guide you through a series of stretches for 10 minutes, then you will briskly return to your work location.

Note: A new 10-minute stretch session will start every 10 minutes between the hours of 10-10:50 a.m.

Did you know you can earn prizes for walking? Visit Walk UCSD.

Fitwell also offers group exercise sessions for departments with about 10 participants. The 30-minute sessions are held twice a week for 8 to 12 weeks at your work site and include:

  • Stretching
  • Core strengthening
  • Total body strengthening
  • Cardiovascular exercise
  • Nutritional information

FitWell programs are tailored to the physical duties of a department's employees (lifting, twisting, reaching, bending, standing, sitting, etc.).

To schedule a group session, supervisors or their assistants can contact Jonna Haupu, FitWell coordinator, (858) 583-3293.

Benefits for supervisors: FitWell helps employees prevent long-term injuries and increases:

  • Work productivity
  • Quality of work and personal life
  • Stamina and energy
  • Morale
  • Teamwork

FitWell will also help decrease:

  • Stress
  • Workers' compensation payouts
  • Sick time usage

For more information, contact Jonna Haupu, FitWell coordinator, (858) 583-3293.
