Summary: UCSD provides paid time off for vacation to employees, depending on eligibility. |
|
Accrual: Professional and Support Staff career employees accrue a specific amount of vacation each month, based on longevity of service to UCSD:
- Less than 10 years of service: 15 working days a year, or 10 hours per month
- 10-15 years of service: 18 working days a year, or 12 hours per month
- 15-20 years of service: 21 working days a year, or 14 hours per month
- 20 or more years of service: 24 working days a year, or 16 hours per month
Eligible employees accrue vacation for all hours on pay status.
Maximum accrual: Employees cease to accrue vacation time when they reach a maximum balance, which is twice the amount of vacation a full-time employee earns each year (based on longevity of service).
- Less than 10 years of service: 240 hours
- 10-15 years of service: 288 hours
- 15-20 years of service: 336 hours
- 20 or more years of service: 384 hours
Use: Employees must request supervisory approval to schedule and use vacation time. Some categories of employees not represented by collective bargaining agreements may use vacation immediately. Other staff employees are eligible after completing six months of qualifying service. All employees may use only vacation time that has been accrued, i.e., although employees may be eligible to accrue 15 working days a year, they may use only the hours that have already been accrued during that year.
Leave Activity Summary Reports (LASRs): Employees' online LASRs are updated monthly to show leave accrual, usage, and available balances. Employees can view their LASRs at any time by going to MyLeaveBalances.
